Prototip alat ini dibuat dan diuji pada mesin sepeda motor dalam kondisi tanpa beban. Komponen utama alat elektroliser ini adalah tabung elektroliser berkapasitas 1 liter, tabung water trap untuk menangkap uap air, elektroda dari kawat stainless steel dan larutan elektrolit. Katalisator yang digunakan dalam larutan elektrolit adalah natrium bikarbonat (soda kue) murni. Pengujian dilakukan dengan beberapa variasi campuran soda kue, yaitu 0, 4, 7, 10 dan 13 gr per 1 liter air murni. Hal ini dilakukan untuk melihat pengaruh dari banyaknya campuran soda kue dalam elektrolit terhadap penghematan bahan bakar. Dari hasil eksperimen terlihat adanya penghematan bahan bakar bensin jika menggunakan alat elektrolisa ini. Besarnya penghematan tergantung kadar campuran soda kue sebagai katalisator pada proses elektrolisa.
