Dalam persamaan kimia sederhana, jika magnetite [Fe3O4] dioksidasi, maka akan menjadi hematite [Fe2O3]. Menarik untuk diamati adalah proses oksidasi magnetite menjadi hematite. Untuk menganalisa proses oksidasi magnetite menjadi hematite, maka digunakan serangkaian metoda non-magnetik. Metoda non-magnetik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metoda SEM (scanning electron microscopy) dan EDS (energy dispersive spectroscopy).Melalui metoda SEM ini, dapat diketahui komposisi bahan dan morfologi dari proses transisi magnetite menjadi hematite.
