Successful sea highway development can bring efficiency to maritime transportation in Indonesia. Elements important to sea highway development are short and reliable routes, as well as compatible port infrastructure. Hydrography through ocean survey can help to fulfil these elements optimally. In the other hand, ocean model can complete the survey within economical scheme. Integration between survey and model result becomes ocean information system, which includes the elements of sea highway development. The system has been used in many developed countries. Governments and institutes of these countries planned carefully and then implemented the system gradually. Later on, the user benefits from it. With this system, the maritime transportation organizes more, reduces the cost, and less accidents happen.

\nSuksesnya pengembangan tol laut diharapkan dapat membantu terciptanya efisiensi sistem transportasi maritim di Indonesia. Keilmuan hidrografi melalui aplikasi survei hidrografi belum bisa mendukung ketersediaan elemen tersebut secara optimal. Melalui pengembangan model laut diharapkan dapat menjadi solusi yang bersifat ekonomis untuk melengkapi hasil survei. Beberapa negara maju telah membuat sistem yang mengintegrasikan antara hasil survei dan model laut. Sistem direncanakan dan dibuat secara bertahap dengan kolaborasi antara pemerintah dan institusi penelitian, yang hasilnya kemudian dapat digunakan oleh user dengan mudah. Sistem pelayaran pun lebih terorganisir, ekonomis, dan mengurangi bahaya kecelakaan.<\/p>\n
